Current Workshops

The art of ocean photography is like no other. It takes an awareness of the external elements and the ability to be able to read, understand and make the most of what’s going on beneath the surface. The challenge can be great, but the satisfaction when you nail that perfect shot is even greater.

Join me this February for a one day intensive ocean photography workshop in Byron Bay, where I will be covering all the fundamentals to take your photography to the next level. From camera settings and prepping your waterhousing through to practical sessions in the breaks of Byron Bay, you will walk away with a broad understanding of how to make the most of your time in the ocean.

TBC – Please email us to be notified of the next workshop.

Over the course of the day we’ll be combining practice and theory to give you the chance to make the most of your time. We’ll be in and out of the waters around Byron Bay, the day ending with a sunset kayak. In summary, we’ll be covering the following:

  • Review of cameras, lenses, housings and settings – what’s best to capture wave images in different conditions and how to prep your gear.
  • Technique intensive – before we hit the ocean we will spend time discussing image composition by reviewing a selection of pictures I have captured, the story behind them and how the outcome was achieved.
  • Practical session in the ocean practicing the techniques learnt in the first half of the day.
  • Post Production and Editing session and review of the morning’s images.
  • Sunset kayak in Byron Bay, with the opportunity to capture the region from a different angle!

Additional Information

You will be required to bring your own camera, water housing and snorkelling gear (mask, snorkel, wetsuit and towel). Light refreshments will be provided and lunch will be at your own leisure each day. Should weather conditions prevent us following the above schedule, alternative arrangements will be made.

I’ve been travelling the world as a professional photographer for over 35 years and this was the experience of a lifetime for me. The opportunity to swim with Humpback whales in Tonga with Craig is ‘absolutely’ the experience of a lifetime. His extensive photographic knowledge is coupled with an infectious enthusiasm to share his affinity with the ocean and these magnificent creatures. I say to anyone having thoughts about doing a workshop in Tonga with Craig – DO IT! If you have a bucket list, fill it with this one, it’s exhilarating, you’ll be buzzing and talking about your experience until you can get back to do it again… I am…

– Peter Joli Wilson (Tonga Whale Photography Workshop, 2016)

I can say that I learned more in this workshop than any other photography class. With Craig’s help, my photographs got better and better each day as I was finally able to “crack the code” of shooting underwater in a housing in manual mode. Craig generously shares not only his expert shooting skills, but also his best tips for editing your photos in the computer. If you want to photograph whales, you need to start by having talented guides to find them! Craig has teamed up with the best local captains and guides in Tonga. Our group regularly concluded each day’s boat trip with memory cards maxed out with images and videos of whales. If you want to photograph whales, go to Tonga and learn from the best. Highly recommended!

Ray (Tonga Whale Photography Workshop, 2016)

It was incredible to be able to learn from Craig as I have always admired his work and approach to it. He was completely honest and answered all questions with an incredible depth of knowledge. I couldn’t recommended one of Craig’s workshops highly enough to any one who wants to take their work to the next level

Pete (Byron Bay Photography Workshop, 2016)

My photography has improved in leaps and bounds since this course, both behind the camera and when editing. The tips and tricks I’ve learned are truly invaluable. Craig is a fantastic teacher and an all round great bloke!

Dylan (Byron Bay Photography Workshop, 2016)

The recent Ocean Photography Workshop with Craig Parry was an awesome experience, one that I have already gone home and put into practice. From first meeting Craig, who was so welcoming to the theory and practical side were lessons I would never had known or learnt without this course. I will be booking further classes with Craig when they come up to improve my photography even more. Thank you for providing these courses and sharing your knowledge and skills
